Abstract: Along with the advent of the computer revoolution has come a shift of style in mechanics (the art of making mathematical models for processes in the phenomenal world) and in applied mathematics in general. This provides an opportunity for the re-enchantment of mechanis by integrating modeling more tightly in the hermeneutical circle of action research. This article introduces the basic concepts of this re-enchanted circle, action mechanics, and suggests its potential importance for postmodern society. This is the first part of MS#43.
