hints for homework 5R (MacOSX only)
revised 07 feb 2008 after class (thanks everybody)
and again 12 feb 2008 after class (for #5b)

#1. Create a folder somewhere called "Etude1", eg, on your Desktop

#2. Duplicate the three files needed for this assignment from
	the class website (etude1.orc, etude1.sco, and sing.aif)
	and put them in that folder

#3. Go to Applications/Csound 5 frontends
	highlight csound5GUI.app, and drag its icon to your dock
	click the icon to open the GUI

#4. click the leftmost button under the label "Orchestra/CSD" to browse to
	your "Etude1" folder, see the ORC file is bold, select it and cleck "Open"
	then both your ORC and SCO files should appear in the two dialog boxes

#5a. if realtime audip output through system speakers is wanted, 
	1. leave the checkmark in the "Realtime I/O" checkbox, 
	2. click the "Play" arrow (lower left corner)

#5b, otherwise, skip #5a and instead:
	1. uncheck the "Realtime I/O" checkbox, 
	2. click the Browse button ("...") in the Output section of the GUI
		browse to your "Etude1" folder, and choose a filename such as "out1.aif"
	3a. click the "Play" arrow (lower left corner) OR
	3b. click the "Configure" button in the Output section of the GUI
		click the "FileI/O" tab at the top of the new command window,
		For "File type" choose "aiff"
		Uncheck "Do not write output to disk"
		close that window
		in Csound5GUI, click the play arrow as in #5a2 or #5b3a above

#6. if all goes well, you should find the file "out1.aif" in the working folder
	and with a double click, this will play in the Finder Preview box
