Math 145, Winter 1999: Chaos Theory
Lecture 2M, 11 Jan 1999
- Review of Lec 1F (Vectorfield and trajectory views)
- 1D flows:
- Attractors
- Deduce from slope of the vectorfield at a zero
crossing that the rest point as attractive or repulsive
- Basins
- Examine all pints in the state space to see where
they go in the long run
- Separatrices
- The boundary between basins is separatrix
- Fold bifurcations
- Move the graph of the vectorfield up and down
and observe the effect on the rest points
- Coming next: 2D attractors, basins, and separatrices
