INTRODUCTORY CHAOS, Math 51, 5 hrs, MWF 2:00-3:10pm, NS4 Rm 214

Chaos theory in the context of one-dimensional maps. 
Mathematical rigor without calculus or ordinary differential equations

Follows the new text by Devaney, a streamlined revision of the
text used last year for Math 142, Chaos theory.

Three lectures per week, two on pure math and one on applications
to physical, biological, social sciences; literature, history.

Prerequisites: Math 11C and 12.

Concurrent enrollment in Math 51L required.

INTRODUCTORY CHAOS LAB, Math 51L, 1 hr, TBA

Lab (assistant is Scott Hotton) using software distributed with
the text. Individual projects involving programming optional.

Meets 3.5 hrs each week.

Concurrent enrollment in Math 51 required.
