Theorem of Pythagoras: India
According to Joseph, pp. 228-230, the statement of the
Pythagorean theorem is given without proof
in the Sulbasutras of
- Baudhayana, ca. 800 BC,
- Apastamba, ca. 600 BC, and
- Katyayana, ca. 600 BC.
But I have read elsewhere that the third of these
actually contains a proof. More on this later
if possible.
