bill-rip.txt, cr 18 nov 2020 by rha on tin Dear Lindisfarne friends, Bill seemed like my younger brother. He will be remembered for all the traits and accomplishments that have been mentioned in this thread -- books, articles, poems, lectures, meetings, and so on. But in my memory these things stand out. We first met at the West Hollywood home of the late Andra Akers in early 1985. This meeting led to a gradual turn in my thought, the following year, to the math of history and my book Chaos, Gaia, Eros written in 1988. His influence was crucial to all my works on history. The Lindisfarne Fellowship, which I joined around 1988. He will be remembered for its creation, his extraordinary research on the intellectual frontier seeking new fellows, and his gift for fundraising. I am especially grateful for the concert of electronic stained glass by MIMI and the Illuminati at the Cathedral, October 1997, for which Joan Halifax was instrumental. Our work together on the revolutionary world history curriculum of the Ross School, 1995-2015, and a priceless set of his lectures recorded on video at the school. We parted in Portland in December, 2018, after a memorable if belated 80th birthday dinner with Tim Kennedy and Paul Mankiewicz. I am so grateful for all his gifts. Ralph Ralph
