Outline of the Monochord Thread

the foundation of this project was to be a thread passing through all the grades, like euclid and archeoastronomy

grade 4: prehistoric music
archeological evidence of the scales used
grade 5: ancient eqyptian instruments, scales, recorded music
esp double flutes, three-stringed lyres, etc
grade 6: pythagoras and the monochord
the goal should be to understand the scale of pythagoras as given by plato in the timeaus (where the octave, fifth, and fourth are perfect and the third is not)
grade 7: the pythagorean comma
the distinction between the semitone and the hemitone
fat and thin fulltones, the two major thirds
grade 8: medieval developments
muslim additions
grade 9: equal temperament and modern science
giorgi, alberti, and palladio apply ratios to architecture
vicenzio and galileo in the kitchen with a monochord
grade 10: vibrations, frequencies, spectra
d'alembert, fourier, chaldni, ben franklin
grade 11: modern additions
